BFP116 – Stop, Turn, Fight.

My buddy Freddy proposed this one, I was not very enthusiast about it, a small (4 squad, 3crew) german force with an AA 20L is about to be run over by the Poles with 7 squad and 6 AFV, but that’s not the bad part. The worst is that the poles are going to take the 2 building needed for the win right from the first movement phase and the defender can do nothing abut it. But wait, there is more: the much needed german reinforcements are coming from a random (and secret) die roll, from the first (1-2) to the 3rd (5-6) turn, and the scenario length is FIVE turn. Mummm. In short the german need to retake one of those two building and the reinforcing panzers are coming under polish fire and you not even know when they’ll arrive. At worst you’ll have 3 turns for the job at best 5 turns. Not a small feat was requested to the German Panzerwaffe.
I defended heavy the 3rd building on the map, prepared a small force (1 and ½ squad) with the task of contesting the house on my left flank; I try to put all my meager AT assets out of polish fire and in position to protect my reinforcements entry point.
My opponent went for broke and put up a determined assault on the 3rd building in order to make the job impossible for the upcoming reinforcement, it was a good idea but he fell prey to the stack syndrome (make a 3 squad 9-1 stack, failed to break my units and broke all of them under a return 5-1 MMG fire), then a platoon of his tanks parked in front of my HIP AA Gun and I was savouring a column of wrecks but the GUN malfunctioned and then rolled a 6 on repair (ehi that’s ASL).
To make things short the polish attack was stopped cold in its tracks by infantry alone and he lost both leaders (one to interdiction the other to a melee in which I fired a 2+1); on the 2nd turn the german reinforcements arrived to stream the tide; with their higher mobility, powerful MG and 20L and most of all radios, they enjoy a distinct superiority over polish AFVs, but it didn’t make it feel.
The german AFV were cut to pieces or malfunctioned their MA. The day was saved by poor bloody infantry (2kills and 1 immobilized) unarmored AA halftrack (2 kills) and Pz1 (1 kill) the last standing polish AFV was the Vickers edw(b) which managed the feat to malfunction both turrets and being recalled after failing both repair rolls. After the german 50mtr scored an immobilized over the Vickers ejw with its 47 MA my leaderless opponent conceded the game.
It was great fun, the game was graced by a multitude of broken MA, high rolls and strange feats of arms with strongly enhanced our fun; this small scenario is a little tin cans paradise, I strongly advise you to give it a try, it’s an hell of fun, both sides are struggling with meager resources and both think that they don’t have enough to win, which is usually the hallmark for a good scenario.
After all I was wrong and Freddy was right, it was a good one.

Chiedi a Paolo per la registrazione, non avevamo concordato nulla ma penso che non ci siano problemi (sicuramente non da parte mia).
